Smell loss is more common than you think.

Millions of people live with a reduced or absent sense of smell, often after a viral infection like COVID-19. It rarely makes headlines, but it can quietly change how food tastes, how safe you feel, and how connected you are to places and memories.

The encouraging part: smell can be trained. Just a few mindful minutes a day, smelling a small set of familiar scents, is a clinically recognised way to support recovery, and Sniff It makes that routine easy to keep up.

Three ways to reconnect with smell.

Sniff It pairs the proven training method with two everyday practices, so smell becomes a real part of your day, not just an exercise.

👃

Smell training

Run short, structured sessions with your own set of familiar scents to retrain your nose. This is the clinically recognised method for supporting smell recovery, made into a habit you can keep.

🌬️

Smell awareness

Guided breathing and mindful smelling help you slow down and tune back into the scents around you, from your morning coffee to rain on the pavement. Calming, grounding, and good for anyone.

📖

Smell journaling

Capture the smells you notice with a title, notes, tags, and an optional photo or place. Over time your journal becomes a personal map of the scents in your life and how your sense of smell is changing.

Everything you need to retrain - and stay curious.

Built around one clear purpose, with just enough delight to keep you coming back.

👃

Olfactory training

Choose your scent set, run timed sessions, and rate each scent 0-10. The proven, structured routine at the core of smell recovery.

Privacy at a glance

What does Sniff It collect?

Nothing for me. Sniff It does not transmit your data to any server of mine and contains no advertising or analytics frameworks. Your entries - training logs, diary notes, mindfulness sessions, gamification progress, and settings - are stored on your device and synced to your personal iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit.

Optional data you control

  • Apple Health: if you enable it, completed sessions are written to Health as Mind & Body workouts and mindful minutes. Sniff It only writes - it never reads your health data.
  • Location: if you add a place to a diary entry, an approximate location is saved with that entry on your device/iCloud. Used only to label your moment.
  • Photos: if you attach a photo to a diary entry, it is stored with that entry. No photo library is uploaded anywhere.

Apple CloudKit

Sync runs through your personal iCloud account (Apple Inc., One Apple Park Way, Cupertino, CA 95014, USA). I have no access to it at any time. See Apple's Privacy Policy.

Children's privacy

Sniff It does not collect personal data from anyone, including children under 16.

Common questions

Is Sniff It really free?

Yes. The full training routine is ad-free and usable without any purchase. Optional one-time Pro and Supporter upgrades add personalisation and help fund development - or buy me a coffee on Ko-Fi.

Does smell training actually work?

Olfactory training is a clinically recognised approach to support recovery from smell loss. Results vary and take time - Sniff It helps you stay consistent, but it isn't a medical device or a substitute for professional advice.

Where is my data stored?

On your device and in your personal iCloud via Apple CloudKit. The developer has no access to it at any time.

Can I delete my data?

Yes - delete everything any time directly in the app. Removing the app also deletes all locally stored data.

Do I need the Health app or location?

No. Apple Health, location, and photos are entirely optional and off until you turn them on.

Will there be an Android version?

Not currently planned - iOS is the focus for now as a solo developer.
